Systolic Time Intervals

Abstract
There are so many methods for measuring the myocardial function, but STI(systolic time intervals), which is measured by analysis of the integral data(HR, QS2, LVET, PEP, PEP/ LVET, SZQ, PTT, etc) from the electrocardiogram, phonocardiogram, and carotid sphygmogram, is the most effective method. So, nowadays, this method is frequently used in the various medical fields. We measured the STI values in lead I , II and l of 50 normal healthy men in supine, horizontal position for 3 minutes. Then the STI changes in 20 degree head-up tilting position for 10 minutes were compared with those in supine position.
All these experiments were done with AVL 970 Myocard-Check (automatic computed STI instrument).
The results were as follows:
1) The STI values of normal adult in supine, horizontal position were as follows with lead II . PEP/LVET: 0.358¡¾0.064, QS?: 383.3¡¾24.2 msee, LVET: 282.2¡¾15.7 msec, PEP: 101.6¡¾17.2msec, S2Q: 497.4¡¾111.9 msec, PTT: 40.9¡¾9.4 msec, HR: 70.8¡¾10.4 beats/min.
2) To exclude the influence of heart rate on STI, we corrected with the Weissler¢¥s regression equation. The corrected values(QSZC, LVETC, PEPC) were as follows. QSZC: 532.0¡¾ 13.4 msec, LVETC: 402.6¡¾13.7 msec, PEPC: 130.2¡¾15.5 msec.
3) The starting point of second heart sound in PCG was constant, but the starting point of Q wave in ECG was supposed to be inconstant according to lead. So we compared the STI values(QSZC, PEPC, PEP/LVET) of lead II with I and ll( via student t-test. The difference of STI between lead I and II was statistically insignificant, but the difference of STI between lead II and II[ was significant(p<0.05). So we can use lead I of ECG or lead II , but can¢¥t use lead IQ instead of lead ]I in measuring STI.
4) The STI values for 10 minutes in 20 degree head-up tilting position were compared with those of supine horizontal position. But there were no significant changes in STI values between them, and it seems good compensation in young healthy men.
